The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.– G.K. Chesterson

Every year, Americans come together today to honor our nations service members and heroes, but this year the sacrifices that these brave men and women make on a daily basis is more real than ever before. In the wake of the tragedy our town witnessed this summer, let us not forget to be thankful for those that made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can stand here today free of tyranny and protected by our Constitution. Nearly 22 million Americans have served or are serving our country and nearly every one of them has a story of a fallen friend, brother, mother, and father. We honor them for the sacrifices they’ve made for us. For the years they spent overseas unable to see their family unsure if they ever would again. For the pain and suffering they endured on the battlefield, and for the tears that were wept as their family and friends said their final good-byes. For all the children who grew up wondering why their father never came home, and for all the widows who raised those children. Today we honor our veterans and thank them for their bravery and for sparing us these same sorrows. Thank you and God Bless.

Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.– John 15:13
